IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is a simple and less-invasive fertility treatment where specially prepared sperm is directly placed into the uterus during the time of ovulation to increase the chances of pregnancy. It is usually suggested for couples with low sperm count or motility, unexplained infertility, PCOS, mild endometriosis, cervical mucus problems, ejaculation issues, or when donor sperm is needed. Before starting treatment, doctors at Amma Hospital & IVF Centre do a complete evaluation including scans, hormone tests, and semen analysis. Ovulation is monitored, sometimes with mild medicines, and when the egg is ready a trigger shot may be given. The sperm is washed in the lab to separate healthy sperms and remove weak or infected ones, and then using a thin catheter it is gently placed inside the uterus — the process takes only 5–10 minutes, requires no anesthesia, and is usually painless. After the procedure, normal activities can continue and a pregnancy test is done after about 14 days.
Success varies depending on age, egg reserve, sperm quality, and cause of infertility, usually around 10–20% per cycle, and many couples may need 3–4 cycles. IUI is generally safe with rare side effects like mild cramps, spotting, or multiple pregnancy if too many eggs grow. At Amma Hospital & IVF Centre, the team focuses on careful monitoring, advanced fertility lab support, ethical treatment, and compassionate care to help couples achieve healthy motherhood.
